Flashing LIghts 4/2/10

I'd been meaning to get to a Flashing Lights party for a while now and last night I finally made it. It's always on the first Friday of the month in this little mall called 88 Palace directly underneath the Manhattan Bridge in Chinatown. DJ AYRES, NICK CATCHDUBS, JUBILEE and SMALLTOWN ROMEO all take turns on the 4 turntables playing House, B-more, Techno and whatever else they decide. Visually it is a photographer's dream or at least for this photographer it is. As soon as I walked in the doors I was transported to a foreign land or better yet another dimension where my childhood memories of school dances with lights and smoke machines get mashed together with my first time ever going to a club on mushrooms and then sprinkled with a few clips from movies Chopping Mall, Mannequin and Big Trouble in little China. All that and I was totally sober with a heavy bag, 2 lenses, a monopod and a mini tripod. I used flash as little as possible and relied more on my monopod and a steady grip to shoot mainly 1-30 second exposures. Fly on the wall style...you know how I do! All you mofo's who keep asking me to take a photo of you over and over again will see that you're not here. Enjoy.
