Of all the snow storms I've shot in, this one was the most daunting. It was about 11:30pm when I stepped out and got halfway around the block when I was ready to go back home. The wind was recking havoc because it was coming from all directions so protecting the camera was a problem. It got soaked in seconds. I ran into Summit Bar to dry up really quickly and grab a rag which ended up saving my ass. That was on Ave. C and 9th Street. I made it to Houston and Lafayette zig zagging through the East Village when I finally decided to call it a night...temporarily. My forehead was frozen and it felt like I'd gulped down a mouthful of ice cream and had serious brain freeze. My fingertips were missing or at least it felt that way and my knees and ankles hadn't had a workout like that since basketball practice in high school. I turned back and made it home at times seriously cursing myself for deciding to shoot in those conditions. My viewfinder kept fogging up or getting wet so some shots I focused purely on memory of the distances I was shooting at. I finally made it home and took off all my clothes when my wife said "I need a drink". She's been preparing her portfolio for F.I.T and was stressing out so me being the good husband I am. I put some clothes on and went back to Summit Bar had a few beers, went home, grabbed the dog and took him to Tompkins Square Park. Thats where I found a headless snowman dunking a snow basketball. I put a head on him, took the dog back home, grabbed my camera and came back and got the shot of the dunking snowman. By the time I got home it was 5:30am. Was it worth it all. Hell Yes!
